Aurora Slot Cars

Once, Aurora slot cars had more market share than any of its competition, irrespective of what scale. In all probability the most unforgettable of the Aurora slot cars was the Thunderjet 500 in 1963.

A few slot-historiographers claim that the diverseness was partially responsible for Aurora’s death! From the earlier days after taking on Play craft’s Highway slot car system, to Postage Stamp Trains and 1:32 scale slot cars, Aurora attempted to provide something for everybody.

Slot cars actually started off in 1912 and were manufactured by a company called Lionel; the cars actually ran on rails rather than in slots. It would appear they were only sold for a couple of years after which production discontinued. Different variants came and went over the next 40 years and it wasn’t to be until the 1950 that slot cars as we know them became available. We are looking at some of the first, Aurora slot cars.
